GROUND WORK

Since its inception, the lawn mower has come a long way. On August 31, 1830, when inventor Edwin Budding received a British patent for the first lawn mower, there was no way he could have understood how his creation would change the world. Since then, the mowing revolution has continued - from push mowers, to riding lawn tractors, to zero-turn mowers, and even more recently, stand on units like the Spartan King of the Grass Mower. More and more Americans are now realizing the benefits of a zero-turn.

Many of you who are reading this blog may own a riding lawn mower and have considered upgrading to a zero-turn. Are they really worth the switch? Do they really cut the mustard (or grass for that matter)? Here are some facts to consider when contemplating an upgrade:

COST

Let’s be honest! The first thing that usually comes to mind when you think of buying a zero-turn mower is the money. A recent online search revealed that some stores are selling riding lawn mowers at prices over $6,300! Some can be found for more than $14,000! The fact is, many zero-turns can be purchased for the same money as many riding lawn mowers. For example, the Spartan RZ-C (compact series) retails for less than $5,000. And although the RZ-C is small in size when compared to many commercial zero-turns, it packs a punch! Available in three engine options for varying horsepower and choices of  42” and 54” deck sizes, it has the same fusion welded tube frame as larger zero-turns. Its 4" deep deck allows it to maneuver easily in tight spaces - which brings up another major factor:

MANEUVERABILITY

Zero-turn means zero-turn. You can spin a full 360 degrees - basically you can turn on a dime. Two levers are all you need to drive, brake and steer. Spinning on the spot is achieved by either pushing the left hand or right hand forward eliminating the need for three point-turns at the end of the cutting pass. With the ability to make sharp, precise turns, you are able to navigate more easily around flower beds, trees, and other objects in your yard. The rear wheels turn under the operator’s control instead of the front wheel control on a riding lawn mower.

TIME SAVER

We all know in this busy world today that time is money. and money is time. A zero-turn simply gets the job done quickly. With the ability to cut grass 50% faster than a riding mower, your straight line mowing speed is enhanced. Instead of going 3-4 mph, zero-turn mowers achieve speeds up to, and sometimes OVER, 8 mph. When cutting time is reduced, you spend less time in the yard, you use less fuel, with less stress. Less is more!

WIDER CUT

One reason a zero-turn saves you time is their ability to cut a wider path. The wider the deck, the fewer passes you will have to make. The fewer passes, the less time you will spend mowing. From 42” to 72” deck sizes, you have amazing choices that allow you to match your yard size with the right sized mower

BETTER CUT

Zero-turn lawn mowers are designed to cut more evenly and more efficiently. The aerodynamic blade design, coupled with engineered decks, produce a quality cut like never before. This design promotes maximum airflow, as the grass is pulled upward toward the mower blades, which allows the clippings to be discharged more quickly and evenly. You will have less clumps and a more healthy lawn as a result.

COMFORT

Whether you are mowing 2 acres or 20 acres, being comfortable while doing so is a major plus. Many mowers on the market offer “special” seats with only a spring suspension seat. However, Spartan’s Smart Ride Technology on SRT Series models (for example) is more than just a seat. You get middle and back elastomer TecsPak® and front neoprene cushioning to absorb any shock or jostling. This, along with our amazing arm rests, soft ride rear radial tires and our frame design with neoprene torsion bar, makes the Spartan zero-turn the smoothest ride on the planet.

DURABILITY

Unlike garden tractors, zero-turn mowers can be built with thick, more durable steel frames and stronger decks, resulting in a better cut quality and reduced cutting times. Spartan Mowers are not only American-made, but they are made of American steel and ingenuity that makes them some of the most durable and long-lasting mowers on the market. The frame alone on our mowers consists of 1.5"x 3" Powder Coated Fusion-Bonded SOLID Steel Bridge Frame. In fact, it’s the same heavy-duty material used by our sister company, Intimidator UTV

PERFORMANCE

From compact to commercial, with power all the way to 38.5 horses, Spartan zero-turn mowers leave riding lawn mowers in the dust. Literally. Our mowers are built in the USA, and forged with 7-gauge steel to bring you the strongest lineup in America! You don’t need a specific mower for flat land or a specific mower for hills.
